As a general definition, energy medicine is an energetic or informational interaction with consciousness, mind, and the biological body to harmonise the whole human organism. In other words, it aims to balance the body, mind, and consciousness with the interaction of energy and knowledge that removes the energy blockages of the whole organism. Many Eastern medicine concepts are mostly based on energy body healing, such as Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture, and Indian medicine (Ayurveda). The global report, which was published in 2019 about Traditional and Complementary Medicine (T&CM) by the World Health Organisation (WHO), stated that:

“The global progress in T&CM over the past two decades is based on contributions from 179 WHO Member States. It clearly shows that more and more countries are [recognising] the role of T&CM in their national health systems.”

In August 2023, WHO organized the first-ever Traditional Medicine Global Summit in Gandhinagar, India. The summit marked a significant step forward in acknowledging the role of traditional, complementary, and integrative medicine (TCIM) in global healthcare. The summit highlighted how nearly 100 countries now have national policies or strategies related to TCIM. Many of these countries have integrated TCIM treatments into their essential medicine lists and national health insurance schemes. This marks a significant shift towards recognizing TCIM as part of essential health services globally.

THREE MAIN EASTERN MEDICINE:

Traditional Chinese Medicine is told to have more than 2500 years of history and it is works on energy body. Qi (Chi, life force), twelve primary meridians, five elements, and 365 acupuncture points are the major contents of the Chinese Medicine. Meridians are the pathways of the Qi circulation which are balancing the body system. The acupuncture points are like the electrical base stations on the meridians. Any blockages or any disharmony in Qi circulation can be treated via pressure or needling to these points. Additionally, herbal treatments and exercises like Qigong and Taichi are the other ways of balancing the body systems in the Chine Medicine.

Indian Medicine (Ayurveda) also told to have long history that is more than 3000 years. The main contents of the Ayurveda are Prana (Qi), five elements, herbs, massages, yoga, and meditation. Additionally, Indian medicine works with chakras which are energy centres of the body. Energy centres are like the main card of the computer. Each centre has its own area and has its own properties linked to the specific body parts, concepts and emotions. The aim is to balance the frequency and vibration of these centres which leads to body to work with harmony and coherence. Every centre is very important and carries information between each other. Any unbalanced energy in any centre may also affect the other centres negatively.

Reiki is another healing system which has also a long history background. But today’s Reiki systems are reformatted by Japanese Buddist Mikao Usui in 1922. Rei means universal and Ki means life force like Qi in Chinese Medicine. It also works with energy body to eliminate the blockages and negative energy levels of the body mainly by using hands and symbols.
