What is the Physical Meaning of Energy in the Body?

Energy is the fundamental source of our lives. Everything is made of atoms, and atoms are 99.999999999% composed of energy. Our body works with electricity through cells activities which are essential for nervous system, muscle contractions, and the heartbeat. The fascia, which covers all the organs of the body and is mainly composed of collagen, produces piezoelectricity through every movement we make. Therefore, a significant electromagnetic field is generated in our body, and every organ has its own bioelectromagnetic field around them.

According to research, the estimated number of total cells is 68 trillion, which includes 30 trillion human cells and 38 trillion bacterial cells. These numbers vary because there are no exact figures, and the number of cells differs from person to person.

All cells communicate with one another, like a wireless network. They transfer information via electrical signals or chemicals. Cells have the ability to conduct electricity, create electrical fields, and work like generators. The major charge carriers of biological organisms are negatively charged electrons, positively charged hydrogen protons, positively charged sodium, potassium, calcium, and magnesium ions[,] and negatively charged ions[,] particularly phosphate ions.

Every cell is like a miniature human body, with all the systems like respiratory, urinary, digestive, and reproduction. As each cell “knows” when to divide, produce protein, and when to die, they have a mind and consciousness as well.

In Western Medicine, the brain’s electrical activity is measured by EEG (electroencephalography), and the heart’s rhythm by ECG (electrocardiogram). Electricity is also used to restart the heart when it stops. If electrical levels in the body are very low or very high, the balance of the organism can be disrupted. High energy levels typically occur when a person is in survival mode. The organism can tolerate this state for a while, but eventually it must return to repair and growth mode.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, one of the main subjects is the twelve meridians. The meridians are the pathways of life energy (Qi or Chi). Qi is like a very strong electric power that sustains the functioning of the entire system. If there is no Qi in the body, life cannot exist. Every meridian has acupuncture points on its pathway. These points are like electricity base stations and have different functions. Needling or applying pressure helps to remove Qi stagnation, deficiency, or excess along the meridians. (The functions of the points involve not only Qi regulation but also other actions to harmonise the system.)

In addition to the definitions above, every organ and meridian of the energy body has specific archetypes. For example, some are linked to the elimination of thoughts, healthy judgement, creativity, healthy boundaries, and life plans. Therefore, when we talk about working on the energy body, it is not only about clearing blockages, but also about working with the archetypes of these meridians.
